Michael Dempsey is Managing Partner at Compound, a New York–based investment firm focused on AI, robotics, energy, materials science, and crypto. He was a first‑round investor in RunwayML, Wayve, and Prime Intellect.

Previously, he led early stage investments in automation and deep tech at Rothenberg Ventures after producing industry defining research on venture trends and coining the term “Frontier Tech” at CB Insights. He began his career at Crane Partners, a multi‑strategy hedge fund investing across private equity, public equities, derivatives, and venture capital.

Michael holds a B.A. in Economics from New York University and enjoys photography, music, cocktails, and dystopian art.
